Life Science On-line Products Pricing Information
An
institutional Customer is any library (academic, corporate, government,
etc.) that authorizes multiple users to access subscribed online
content under a single license. We offer two types of licenses
to institutional Customers: the Enhanced Access License (EAL)
and the Basic Access License (BAL).

Basic Access License (BAL)
The Basic Access License (BAL) is suitable for single-site institutions
with limited Wiley journal collections or those who prefer electronic
access at the title level. BALs apply only to journal subscriptions
and are not available for other Wiley InterScience resources such
as Reference Works: or Chemical Databases. View a sample Basic
Access License (PDF - 21k)
In addition to the customization and alerting services associated
with Registration and the powerful search and browse functions
open to all visitors, special BAL features include:
Unlimited User Base. Any number of Authorized Users
within the Customer's site may access the full text for subscribed
journals.
Single, Concurrent Access to Full Text. Only one user may access
the same full-text document, such as a single journal article,
at one time; there is no concurrent access.
Single-Site Access. BALs are limited to a single site,
which is defined as a single, geographically contiguous office
building, complex, or campus location. It is not a mailing address
and may include more than one library and dial-in access via
the licensee's secure network. If you are unsure whether your
institution qualifies, please contact Wiley directly.
Online Backfile Availability. Within the range of subscribed
journals, BAL Customers may license online backfile volumes
(if available) for an additional one-time charge. Certain variables
apply.
Flexible Subscription Options. BAL Customers have the
choice of selecting print, online only, or a combined print-online
package for any journal or combination of journals. Unbundled
print and online access are priced the same, with a ten percent
(10%) premium for the combined package. Since the BAL allows
title-by-title purchase of both print and online material, there
are no restrictions on what Customers can cancel.
Single-Year License. The Basic Access License for electronic
journals is valid for one year and is automatically renewable.
Simplified Subscriptions. The BAL and a BAL renewal may be processed
through your subscription agent, in the same way as a print
journal. Subscription agents are provided with the print, online
only, and combined package prices for all Wiley titles.
Enhanced Access License (EAL)
Available to consortia and single institutions, the Enhanced Access
License is ideal for Customers who wish to provide their entire
user base with the broadest possible access and the best research
tools available across multiple sites. Special EAL features include:
Unlimited Concurrent users. The number of concurrent
users and/or Authorized Users is unlimited.
Multi-site Global Coverage. The user population may be
completely decentralized, dispersed among multiple sites across
the country or across several continents.
Roaming Access. Authorized Users may access content from
any computer, anywhere in the world
Shared Content. Content may be included in shared electronic
work group files and "electronic reserve rooms" as
well as in printed training materials and academic coursepacks
at no additional charge.
ArticleSelectTM Preferred Rates. Individual documents
in unlicensed content may be purchased via ArticleSelect tokens
at preferred rates.
Complimentary Backfiles. Within the range of subscribed
journals, EAL Customers may access all back volumes that are
available online.
Monthly Usage Reports. Extensive statistics detail usage
on both an aggregate and title-by-title level to facilitate
tracking and planning.
Multi-Year Contracts. To help libraries plan their subscription
budgets, licenses may span one to five years. Customers may
lock in rates through annual price increase caps based on the
license's duration and overall value.
Personal Account Manager. Customers receive personalized
service through a dedicated account manager who works closely
with each EAL account and is familiar with your institutional
needs. Your Manager oversees the annual license review and renewal
process and is on hand to solve any content or operational problems.
Consortium Agreements
Enhanced Access License for Consortia
Individual consortium members may access the subscribed journals
of all participating consortium members at no additional cost
beyond the license fee they pay for access to the journals in
their individual collection. Consortium members are entitled to
preferred pricing for new products in Wiley InterScience. The
license is negotiated by the Consortium on behalf of all members.
Retrieve Non-Subscribed Documents on Demand
Now users can have instant, full-text access to an extensive collection
of journal articles or book chapters available on Wiley InterScience.
There are two pathways for access to non-subscribed content:
Pay-Per-View affords instant, full-text access to an extensive
collection of journal articles or book chapters available on Wiley
InterScience without the need for a subscription. This service
allows anyone to purchase access to individual journal articles
or book chapters directly by using a credit card. Access is instant
and available for 24 hours.
ArticleSelect for Enhanced Access License customers
provides a convenient pathway for access to full-text content
from non-subscribed journals and online books. Authorized users
within the institution can use an electronic "token"
to access an individual article or chapter. The ArticleSelect
service also comes with a special, cost-saving feature: whenever
tokens have been spent on a particular title equalling 115% of
its subscription price, the customer is "auto-subscribed"
for the year, so it will not be necessary to use additional tokens
for articles or chapters from that title.
ArticleSelect for Basic Access License customers
provides access to full-text content from non-subscribed journals
and online books. Authorized users within the institution can
use an electronic "token" to access an individual article
or chapter.
