Sexual Harassment, is it or isn'tRetail Version

Retail environments can create high-risk atmospheres of sexual harassment because it is often necessary for employees to work in close quarters, and physical contact with customers and coworkers may be a required part of the job. But whatever retail environment you work in, you want your managers and employees focused on the job at hand; keeping your customers satisfied and loyal.

Don’t leave any doubts in the minds of your retail employees regarding sexual harassment! Avoid lost time, lost productivity, lost profits and the loss of your organization’s good reputation by educating employees about what constitutes sexual harassment. One way to achieve this is to teach employees how to deal with real-life situations and send a strong message that inappropriate and offensive behavior is unacceptable and illegal.

Sexual Harassment: Is It or Isn’t It? for the Retail Industry is a video-based training program with interactive vignettes designed to stimulate discussion about the not-so-obvious forms of sexual harassment and the hostile work environment it can create. In this discussion-centered video, viewers are invited to follow along as an employment law attorney explains eight dramatic situations that might be considered sexual harassment and the federal laws that apply to the retail industry.

After viewing this video, your employees will be able to identify, stop and prevent quid pro quo and hostile environment sexual harassment, and employ several precautionary measures to avoid misunderstandings and accusations of sexual harassment in a retail environment.

This training video consists of eight short vignettes depicting examples of possible sexual harassment situations in a variety of retail environments (including on the front lines with customers, as well as behind the scenes with coworkers). After each vignette, an employment law attorney provides a brief explanation of why the situation is considered to be either of two types of sexual harassment, or why it’s not. Facilitators may stop the tape for group discussion after each vignette or let the employment law attorney continue narrating the legal viewpoints for each scenario.
