This set of two video series treats two subjects:
systems thinking and managing fear. They are included
because is an important topic and deepens the discussions
found in the Library.
Featured in Volumes 1-4, Dr. Russell Ackoff is a pre-eminent
developer of systems theory and its applications to
management. His several books (see Suggested Reading)
provide an understanding of the evolution of thinking
about organizations as systems and the consequences
for managers and leaders. These videos and their teaching
guide will help you understand your organization as
a social system and how to manage it so that its results
can become greater than the sum of individual contributions.
Dr. Gerald Suárez, now Director of Presidential Quality
Management at the White House Communications Agency,
is featured in Volumes 5-7. Dr. Suárez began to study
the effects of fear on organizations while with the
Department of the Navy. He conducted an extensive study
of organizational fear, mindful of Dr. Deming's teaching
that management must drive out fear or suffer the consequences
of diminished performance. :In these videos Dr. Suárez
provides guidance for acknowledging the presence of
fear and then taking steps to manage and reduce it.
