Quality . . . Or Else!
Many
companies and government agencies have used the Quality...Or
Else! PBS series to educate employees about the global economy, the imperative to understand the new meaning of quality, and the
kinds of changes that management and employees must make to stay
in business and make a profit or achieve mission objectives.
The companion course of study in fifteen sessions, consisting
of a facilitators guide and participant notebooks, is used
in colleges and university teaching as well as businesses, and
is an excellent, introduction to the underlying quality issues.
First broadcast in 1991 and frequently repeated in many public
television markets, the three reports in the Quality...Or Else!
series introduce the idea of the global marketplace, why both
organizations and individuals must change to survive and how the
new management methods are working in businesses, schools and
government. Each program is 57 minutes long.
Program One The Global Marketplace
Explores the shift from regional to international markets, the
use of new technologies, and the new management philosophies behind
the Quality Revolution. Explains why, in the new world economic
order, geographic distance is irrelevant. Successful organizations
must use the new way of thinking to achieve revolutionary rates
of improvement. A close relationship with customers is paramount.
Program Two Change to Survive: A Brand New Ball Game
Explores the drastic changes being made by government, companies,
managers, and workers in order to prosper. Hillerich and Bradsby,
makers of the venerable Louisville Slugger baseball bat, chose
to change in order to survive.
Program Three How to Hit the Moving Target
Reports how quality works in services, education, and government,
as well as manufacturing. Recounts how General MacArthur initiated
change in Japan after World War II.
